Shaving is also essential in order to avoid pain and discomfort during the taping process as the hair can be pulled while you are covering the lower limb. Cover the knee area with the underwrap. Use the tape to cover the knee, calf, and limb area. Make sure that these areas are shaved to prevent hair removal.
–Taping – use the elastic tape to cover the areas where you want to support with the material. Make sure that the calf and thigh muscles are contracted as you are applying the tape to prevent blood restriction when you are done with the process. Apply anchors on the skin of the mid and upper thigh of the patient to secure the tape. Before you apply the anchors, make sure that the skin is shaved to avoid discomfort. Wrap the tape on the outside of the leg going upwards below the knee joint level to increase the support while at the same time allowing movement and bending capability.
–Finishing – complete the taping task by using strips of the elastic tape over the anchors to secure and close the taping process. Make sure to avoid placing these strips on the areas of the lower limbs where friction can detach the tape such as on the thighs.
